AN extra 30 posts could be created if plans for the expansion of a training centre in Astley go ahead.

Bosses at Network Plus have applied to Wigan Council to make changes to their former Balfour Beatty training centre site off Chaddock Lane.

Under their proposals new single storey buildings would be constructed to the south west and north west elevations of the building.

The scheme would also see a three-storey modular building retained and cladded. However several other modular additions would be removed.

Part of the works would also see the car park remodelled to accommodate the extra workforce.

Planning agent Andy Frost said in a submission: " The new extension would accommodate in the order of 100 employees, 72 of whom would be relocated from within the existing modular buildings, as proposed to be removed.

"This would equate to a net increase of employees on site to be in the order of 28."

Currently there are around 300 people employed at the location overall.

Mr Frost, urging approval for the scheme, added: "The proposals will deliver a number of benefits in accordance with the council’s aspirations for the site and the wider area.

"They will support business growth and create new jobs and in so doing will make a positive contribution towards the local economy."
