Bolton is recording the second highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, despite a fall in cases.

The number of new positive Covid-19 cases in the borough is the lowest it has been in many month; however, it is still higher than nearly all other borough's in Greater Manchester.

The infection rate is back below 100 after a rise in cases, which may have been due to the return of schools on March 8, although it is still far above the national average of around 38 cases per 100,000 residents in a local authority.

In the seven days to April 2, Bolton recorded 221 new positive cases of coronavirus, equalling an infection rate of 76.9 new cases per 100,000 residents.

This is a significant fall from the previous seven days, to March 26, where the borough recorded 309 new cases of Covid-19 at a rate of 107.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Only Tameside is recording more cases per 100,000 people than Bolton.

In the seven days to April 2 Tameside recorded 180 new positive Covid-19 cases at an infection rate of 79.5 new cases per 100,000 people in the borough.

Bolton's infection rate was only just above Oldham's which recorded a rate of 76.8 cases per 100,000 people according to the latest figures, with Manchester (72.5) and Rochdale (72.5) also recording an infection rate of over 70 cases per 100,000 residents in their borough's.

Trafford is still recording the lowest amount of cases in Greater Manchester, recording just 126 new cases in the seven days to April 2, at an infection rate of 53.1 per 100,000 residents.

Salford (59.1), Wigan (59), Stockport (56.6), and Bury (53.4), all also recorded an infection rate of below 60 in the seven days to April 2 after all boroughs in Greater Manchester saw their number of new cases decrease.
