ROYAL Bolton Hospital have announced that from tomorrow pregnant women will be allowed a partner or other support person to accompany them at all antenatal clinics.

The change comes as lockdown in England is eased on April 12.

It will be welcome news to expectant mothers who have had to go to appointments alone during lockdown.

A spokesman for the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust said: "We are pleased to share that from tomorrow, Monday, April 12 we will be able to welcome a partner or other support person to accompany our pregnant women for all antenatal clinic appointments at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

"Due to the size and layout of the department and to maintain safe distancing, we ask our pregnant women to come into the department alone and that your support person wait outside (e.g. in your car). You will be able to ring them to join you when your appointment is called.

"Both you and your support person will need to wear a surgical face covering while attending, available on arrival. You and your support person will be asked if you have symptoms of Covid-19, and your support person will not be allowed to attend if they do have symptoms.

"Thank you for your patience as we continue to adapt to deliver our services during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our number one priority is keeping our patients and staff safe."
