A SECTION of the M61 on the "Kearsley Spur" is closed this afternoon after a "serious" crash involving two motorbikes.
The collision has happened on the northbound carriageway between the motorway and the Kearsley roundabout on St Peters Way.
A closure was put in place at around 3.05pm as emergency services work at the scene.
Traffic is backing up on the M60 to junction 13 at Worsley.
Ambulances and an air ambulance was sent to the scene and a man suffered lower limb fractures and a head injury.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "A 999 call was received at 14.43.
"We have attended with multiple resources including two ambulances, rapid response vehicle, advanced paramedic and air ambulance.
"One male patient in his 30s taken to hospital by road with lower limb fractures and a head injury."
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman added: "Officers were called around 2.45pm today to St Peters Way, Bolton, to reports of a road traffic collision involving two motorcycles on the Kearsley roundabout.
"Emergency services attended and a man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital.
"No arrests have been made."
