A KIND-hearted girl''s sacrifice of her flowing locks has been backed by TV brainbox Jenny Ryan.

Hannah Harkin, aged nine, from Ladybridge, has grown Rapunzel-esque hair during lockdown and after a family friend’s recommendation, decided to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years old, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Hannah will be donating an incredible 12 inches to the trust, and will be facing the chop on the 18th.

The cause has received help from TV presenter Jenny Ryan, who has shared the fundraising page on Twitter.

And Hannah is the niece of QI podcaster and ‘Head Elf’ James Harkin, who also shared the post on social media.

She also aimed to raise £550 for the charity to aid in the wig creation - with the amount raised now well over £1,000.

Mum Katie said she was proud of her daughter’s charitable efforts.

She said: “We originally just wanted to get her hair cut but then a friend recommended to us that we donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

"We set a target of £200, then £550 after we saw something that said that’s how much they need to help create the wig. It just took off from there and she is very proud to be doing it for such a good cause.”

Hannah was “nervous” but was happy to be doing it.

She said: “I decided to do it because a lot of my hair would be coming off and one of mum’s friends recommended doing it. I am a bit nervous. Some of my friends have been donating to the cause but a lot of my friends don’t know so it will be a bit of a surprise.”

Hannah’s haircut will be the day before she returns to classes at Ladybridge Primary.

Katie added: “I had one woman who said that her daughter had a wig while receiving treatment for a brain tumour and it really helped Hannah to show that she would be helping.”
