A HGV overturned after clipping a bridge.

Emergency crews remain at Hilton Lane in Walkden after being called just after 9am.

Firefighters from Bury and Farnworth Fire Station attended.

Watch Manager at Bury Fire Station, Steve Wilcock said: "The wagon just clipped the bridge and went on to its side.

"The driver was okay, a little shocked by what had happened.

"We went there with the environmental protection unit because there was diesel spillage.

"There was a number of fire engines at the scene as part of the recovery phase."

Farnworth Fire Station watch manager Mike O’Neill said: “We were called at around 9am after a HGV hit a bridge.

“It had rolled on to the side.

“Four fire engines were there along with police.

“We had to remove five tonnes of polystyrene which had gone onto the side.

“The driver was OK but a bit shaken.

“We were there for around two-and-a-half hours.”

Police say a 51-year-old man has been reported to court for driving without due care and attention.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Emergency services attended, and officers established that the HGV had overturned after colliding with the bridge.

"There were no injuries."

"The road is currently closed while the recovery of the HGV takes place."
