A TAXI driver was assaulted by a passenger while he was driving in a shocking attack which led to the car crashing into a tree.

Police were called to Marsey Road in Breightmet last Thursday at around 8.30pm to reports a taxi driver had been attacked.

It is believed the driver was assaulted by one of his passengers, causing him to crash into a tree.

Two men then stole a quantity of cash before leaving on foot.

They are described as black, aged 18 to 20 and were wearing face masks.

The taxi driver was taken to hospital by a friend and his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Enquiries are ongoing and there have been no arrests.
