TAKEN from the corner of Newport Street in 1959 this photograph shows how many impressive buildings there were on Bolton’s Great Moor Street.
To get your bearings, you are looking towards Bradshawgate into which the double decker bus is turning on the right of the photograph.
On Bradshawgate you can see the distinctive frontage of what was then the Lido Cinema with its giant lettering and columned facade.
Built in 1937, the Lido in its early years also hosted some live shows and could seat a maximum of 1,800 people.
It would later became the Cannon Cinema and when it closed in 1998 it was the last surviving town centre cinema.
