ELECTORAL Commission data has revealed voter turnout in Bolton ahead of next month's elections.

Those on the electoral roll in Bolton can take part in the borough council elections in just over three weeks' time.

Alongside this, residents will be choosing who they would like to be Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Many different elections are due to take place on Thursday, May 6, which has been dubbed “Super Thursday."

And data shows that at the last local council elections in 2019, 198,800 people in the area were eligible to vote, with 71,800 of them returning valid ballot papers.

That was a turnout of 36.1% - higher than the England average for council elections of 32.3%.

Around 27,600 postal votes were included in the count.

Including rejected votes, the ballot box turnout in Bolton that year was 36.3%.

Further data shows that the last Greater Manchester mayoral election in 2017 had a valid voter turnout of 28.6%, across the Greater Manchester combined authority.

In England, voters will be choosing a mixture of councillors, local mayors, regional mayors and police commissioners.
