A GENEROUS local lady has raised hundreds of pounds for Royal Bolton Hospital staff by knitting dolls of the nation's beloved Captain Tom.

Kathleen Brooks wanted to recognise the hard work and bravery of NHS staff during the pandemic, and decided to harness her creativity to raise money.

During the first lockdown, she knitted a phenomenal 150 little dolls of both NHS staff and mini Captain Toms.

Her beautiful creations raised £700, which she gave the trust’s chief executive, Fiona Noden, last week at a socially-distanced presentation.

Sarah Skinner, the trust's charity manager, said: "Thank you Kathleen. Your support and kindness has brought a smile to many faces and the money raised will make a big difference to patients receiving care and treatment on the critical care unit."

A Bolton CCG spokesperson said: "We received an incredibly kind donation last week from local lady Kathleen Brooks.

"She donated £700 to the staff in the critical care unit at Royal Bolton Hospital from her fundraising efforts."
