A MAN who beat his mother in a fit of rage using parts of a vacuum cleaner has been sentenced to six months in a young offenders institution.
Ryan Ogden, 20, of Brierfield Avenue, Atherton, hit his mum over the head with the hollow tube at an address in Leigh on March 22, Bolton Crown Court heard. The attack resulted in bruising and facial injuries.
Joe Boyd, prosecuting, said: “Mr Ogden became irate after a disagreement with a taxi driver. He punched his mum in the right eye while screaming, ‘I knew you’d let me down,’ before hitting her on the back of the head, with force, using the tube of a hoover.”
In mitigation it was said that Ogden has mental and physical issues and that he showed genuine remorse about his actions.
Appearing remotely from custody, Ogden said he ‘wants to get better’ and ‘will do anything to get help’.
As requested by the prosecution, no restraining order was made as his mother wants to maintain a relationship with him - despite Ogden appearing in court in 2019 after holding her hostage and threatening to kill her after she refused to give him money to pay drug debts.
