The road is closed for routine maintenance until 5am
MOTORISTS are being warned that a major route into Bolton is being closed overnight.
The M61 northbound entry slip road at junction 4 from the Atherton and Leigh direction has been closed due to essential roadworks.
Routine maintenance will be taking place overnight and the road is expected to reopen at 5am - in time for the morning commute.
The sliproad is the main route for motorists coming to Bolton from Atherton and Leigh. In the meantime, road users will have to seek alternative routes.
A Highways England spokesperson said: "Roadworks: The #M61 northbound entry slip road at #J4 (#Atherton #Leigh #A6) is in the process of being CLOSED.
"Planned to re-open by 5am tomorrow, April 23.
