A THUG who pulled his car over to spit in his ex-partner’s face has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Magistrates told 61-year-old Mark Jenkinson: “This was an absolutely disgusting offence, particularly in light of the coronavirus situation.

“You have absolutely no excuse for your behaviour.

“You pulled over your car and quite deliberately spat in her face.

“You had no idea whether or not you were carrying any infections, not only for coronavirus but for other diseases as well.

“You need to address your attitudes and actions.”

Jenkinson, of Manchester Road, Kearsley, had denied committing the offence, assaulting his former partner on February 12 last year but was convicted following a trial at Wigan Magistrates’ Court.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months and must participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities.

He was also ordered to pay £748 in costs and charges and must hand over £500 in compensation to his victim.
