A SHOPLIFTER who attacked a store manager has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Darren Davis, aged 29, punched Jake Corlett three times and threw a bottle at him as he stole four bottles of gin, worth £74, from Tesco in Bolton on March 15.
Davis, of Chorley Old Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to assault and theft.
Wigan magistrates heard that Davis has previous convictions.
Sentencing him to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, Davis was told: “This was an assault on a shop manager engaged in public duties and is a serious offence.”
He was ordered to have treatment for alcohol addiction, must participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities and pay his victim £30 in compensation.
