OLYMPIC medallist Beth Tweddle is giving four children from Bolton the chance to receive three months of free gymnastics lessons.

Beth, Britain's most successful female gymnast, is inviting people to nominate children they think deserve free gymnastics training as her state-of-the-art centre.

The site opened up last year but has been closed for several months due to lockdown restrictions.

Beth said: "I’m really excited to be able to reopen our gymnastics centre, and I wanted to do something for local children in Bolton who have been stuck indoors and without vital physical activity for months on end.

“Children across the country have spent the last few months in lockdown, unable to see their friends, so it’s more important than ever for us to get them involved as soon as it’s safe to do so.

“I truly believe there is a sport for every child - they just need the right opportunity to find it. Gymnastics is an excellent activity to be involved in, but one of the main barriers is often the lack of available, suitable facilities. That’s why we’ve designed this bespoke facility, completely dedicated to gymnastics development for all, at grassroots level.

"As well as the physical benefits of the sport, gymnastics also helps children with their cognitive skills, social skills and dedication, which can help them in later life.

"It provides opportunities for children to be creative, stimulate their imaginations through sport and recognise their unique role within a team, most importantly it’s fun and can help children feel happier and more confident.”

The centre which reopened on April 12 is purpose-built for families and offers a unique gymnastics journey for both babies and children, with experienced coaches, online progress tracking, fun lessons and clean, modern facilities.

Classes started from 0-24 months, then progress to the Beth Tweddle Gym Stars programme for 2-7 year olds, followed by the Beth Tweddle Academy from eight years plus.

Nominates are open until may 14 and can be made at bethtweddlegymnastics.co.uk/bolton/register.

All children entered into the competition will also be given a free taster session.
