A DOG which attacked its owner leaving him with life-changing injuries is set to be destroyed, police have confirmed.

A man, aged 50, was rushed to hospital this afternoon in a life-threatening condition following the horror attack in the back yard of his flat in Yewdale Gardens, Breightmet.

The investigation, which has left the victim's neighbours in a state of shock, is ongoing, but police have released an updated statement.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to Yewdale Gardens, Bolton, at about 1.20pm to reports a man was being attacked by a dog.

"NWAS and an air ambulance attended an a 50-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries to his arms, legs and face.

"It is believed it is the man's own dog.

"A scene remains in place and the dog is due to be destroyed."

The breed of dog has not been confirmed.
