A BOLTON Wanderers fan has gone viral over the weekend after writing and recording a song in the aftermath of the team’s promotion over the weekend.

Steven Millington optimistically started recording a celebration song during his break at work on Saturday morning

He finished work at noon, at manufacturers Albany International - three hours before kick off - which gave him ample time to write a few more verses.

The 47-year-old watched the match at home by himself while his wife was at work and then released the track at full time.

His song has since been viewed more than 30,000 times on social media — and he is thrilled that his joy and excitement has been shared with so many people.

Accompanied by acoustic guitar, the catchy chorus sounds: “We’re Bolton Wanderers from Lancashire, no one likes us but we don’t care.

“We’ve been promoted from League Two. Let’s have a party, a ding dong do.”

Wanderers’ official Twitter account even shared the video and hailed the song as ‘magnificent’.

Steven was overjoyed when promotion was secured, and praised the club for turning around its fortunes in the second half of the season.

Speaking to The Bolton News, the Whites supporter said: “I was absolutely jumping for joy at the final whistle.

“It’s been a year full of ups and downs for the club and nobody would have thought this would be possible at the end of last year.

“I’m so happy with all the positive comments from fellow fans about the song. I feel like it’s something we all needed.”

Singer-songwriter Steven, from Radcliffe, has enjoyed covering bands including Oasis, Stone Roses and Kasabian for years - and has written a song for the Whites in the past.

He has also performed in pubs and other venues at various points throughout his life.

He added: “I’m really grateful to everyone who has listened to the song and has passed on all the nice comments.

“I don’t think people would say that they didn’t like it if it wasn’t true so that’s obviously really nice to hear.

“It was such a great moment for the club and I think I’ll remember it for a long time.

“I cannot wait for next season when hopefully fans will be able to return to see the boys play.

“It’s like having a 12th man when you’re playing home fixtures and it’s so important for the town’s morale too.”
