A BASINGSTOKE family is requesting donations from good-hearted people for the funeral of a man who passed away unexpectedly last month.

Friday Ogbuka died at his home a day after Easter, on April 5, leaving his wife and four young children behind. He was 53.

The death came as a shock for the family, and they are now struggling to meet the costs for his funeral.

A gofundme page, created on behalf of the family, has raised just over £2,000 as of Monday (May 10), but the family will need £5,000 to meet the cost of the funeral and other critical needs.

Mr Ogbuka’s wife Comfort described him as an amazing, caring and loving person who was devoted to his family and God.

“He was a true gentleman who would do anything for anyone. He was a dedicated father to his four young children (aged 3, 6, 10 and 12), and will be extremely missed,” the gofundme page read.

Mr Ogbuka had been living in Basingstoke for just a year, after moving here from Italy. His young family joined him six months ago.

“A devout parishioner, attending St Bede's church every Sunday without fail and known well to volunteers and clergy alike.

“The family are all devastated by Friday's passing, and due to the sudden loss, they are not prepared for the cost of a funeral service.

“We want to give Friday the memorial he deserves, to honour his memory and say our last goodbyes.

“We are currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of Friday’s funeral. We need to raise £5,000 to be able to afford a basic funeral service, but any more funds raised can go towards other critical needs.

“Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help during this difficult time.”
