A MAN said to have staged a 12-hour stand off with police in Kearsley has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.
Stephen Wallwork, 31, of South Avenue, Kearsley, was on the roof of a property in Maple Close, on Wednesday.
Police say he breached the conditions of his licence following his release from prison and after arresting him he spat at an officer.
A GMP spokesman said: “A man has been charged following the assault of an emergency worker. Stephen Wallwork, 31, of South Avenue, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.
“Wallwork has been remanded into custody after breaching the conditions of his license following his release from prison. He is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 26.
“Officers arrested a man on Wednesday 12 May 2021 following the execution of a warrant in Bolton. While in custody an officer was spat at.”
Emergency services were around Maple Close from around 8am on Wednesday to a man on a house roof. He was seen on the roof with an axe and did not come down until after 9pm.
