A ROUND-UP of cases dealt with by magistrates recently.

MAGISTRATES have jailed a man for 52 weeks after he admitted assaulting a police officer in Bury on March 10. Leon Richmond, aged 25, of Victoria Grove, Bolton, also pleaded guilty to sending messages in breach of a non-molestation order. He was ordered to pay a total of £150 in compensation.

A WOMAN who had no licence or insurance was caught driving a Peugeot 206 on Castle Street, Bolton, on December 11 last year. Vivian Baines, aged 50, of Nottingham Drive, Bolton was fined £780.

A SUSPENDED prison sentence has been handed to a man who was caught carrying a knife in public on August 18 last year. Harishan Kannan, aged 21, of Eastham Way, Little Hulton, also admitted possessing cannabis. He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

A FORMER prisoner who failed to attend supervision appointments has been sent back to jail for 14 days. Shaun Devaney, aged 35, of Copthorne Drive, Bolton, admitted breaching his post-sentence supervision.

A WOMAN has been electronically tagged after she admitted assaulting a police officer and racially harassing his colleague on September 6 last year. Joanne Cummings, aged 37, of Kensington Court, Dawson Lane, Bolton, was sentenced to wear the tag and was made subject to an 8pm to 7am curfew. She was also ordered to pay a victim £200 in compensation, have treatment for drug addiction and must participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities.

MAGISTRATES have fined a woman £80 after she damaged a video doorbell in Bury on April 18. Emma Horrocks, aged 39, of Wood Terrace, Bolton, was ordered to pay £150 in compensation.

A THIEF who stole an electronic tablet has been given a community sentence. Kieran Brown, aged 26, of Westland Avenue, Farnworth, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on May 5 and also admitted using threatening behaviour towards a woman in Farnworth on March 11. He was fined £180 and ordered to participate in 10 sessions of a behaviour programme as well as 20 days of rehabilitation activities.

AN UNDER-AGE driver caught behind the wheel of a Citroen Saxo in Danby Road, Bolton, on February 8 has been referred to a youth offender panel for three months. The 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or insurance, failing to wear a seat belt and having no MoT for the vehicle.

A WOMAN caught driving a Vauxhall Astra on Shepherd Cross Street, Bolton, without insurance on December 29, 2019, has been banned from the roads for six months. Madeeha Khawaja, aged 29, of Merlin Grove, Bolton, was also fined £440.

MAGISTRATES have fined Dominik Bihari, aged 23, of Woodvale Drive, Bolton, £880 after he was caught driving a VW Passat on Chorley New Road, Horwich on December 11 last year without a licence or insurance.

A DRUG driver who admitted driving dangerously in Bolton on June 13 last year has been ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work. Norbert Molnar, aged 38, of Bertha Street, Bolton, had used cocaine when he drove a Ford Focus on Halliwell Road. He was ordered to undertake 25 days of rehabilitation activities and was also banned from holding a driving licence for 18 months

A MAN who breached a restraining order by going to a house in Hopewell Close, Bolton, on March 9 has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months. Levi Todd, aged 36, of Newby Road, Bolton, admitted committing the offence.

MAGISTRATES have jailed a man for 32 weeks after he was caught carrying a knife he had stolen in Morrison’s supermarket, assaulting two people and stealing other goods. Wesley Trevett, aged 41, of Clive Street, Bolton, committed the offences on April 30. The court decided that, although it is Trevett’s second conviction for carrying a knife, it would be unjust to impose the minimum six-month prison term as he had stolen the knife from the Bolton store and had not used or brandished it.

A SHOPLIFTER caught stealing £165 worth of clothes from a TK Maxx store has been sentenced to do 50 hours of unpaid work. Ivan Lakatos, aged 40, admitted stealing the goods form the store in Leigh on May 4. Lakatos, of Central Avenue, Bolton, was ordered to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities.

A DRINK driver who was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa on Crompton Way, Bolton, of April 25, has lost his licence for 12 months. Hugo Kiely, aged 21, of Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, admitted being over the alcohol limit and having no insurance. He was fined £175.

A WOMAN whose VW Beetle had incorrectly spaced letters on its registration plate has been fined £68 by magistrates. Celina Bate, aged 35, of Cooke Street, Farnworth, was spotted driving the vehicle on Longcauseway on February 22 last year.

A BOY caught riding a Yamaha 125 scooter in Coniston Avenue, Little Hulton, on February 14 has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months. The 15-year-old was convicted of having no licence or insurance.

A MAN who was repeatedly caught driving a BMW 1 series without a licence or insurance has been banned from applying for a licence for two years. Connor Walmsley was caught on January 19 this year driving carelessly on Johnson Fold Avenue. He had no licence or insurance and was fined £180. He was also driving a grey BMW 1 series without a licence or insurance on Avenue Street, Bolton, on September 30 last year, on Chorley Old Road, Bolton, on October 6 last year, on Avon Street, Bolton, on September 20 last year and Tattersall Avenue, Bolton on September 13. Walmsley, aged 26, of Vermont Street, Bolton, denied all the offences but was convicted following a trial.

A WOMAN has been sentenced to do 200 hours of unpaid work after she failed to give police, who suspected her of committing a driving offence, a breath sample on March 5. Chantelle Williams, aged 47, of Westbourne Avenue, Great Lever, admitted having no reasonable excuse for failing to comply. She was ordered to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities and banned from driving for 30 months.

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £80 after he admitted possessing amphetamine on April 30. Lee Montague, aged 26, of Ridyard Street, Little Hulton, had the drugs forfeited.
