A BOLTON man jailed for indecent assault and false imprisonment in Oxford has had his sentence extended for blackmailing a prison inmate

Kamran Khan, 39, blackmailed a fellow inmate into transferring thousands of pounds into his mother’s bank account and intimidated the victim when demands for more failed.

Khan, and another man who ‘sexually humiliated’ a young girl, were jailed for a total of 20 years in 2018.

Khan and Raheem Ahmed, from Oxford, were convicted after a five-month hearing into child sexual exploitation in the city.

Eight men in total were convicted for running a child grooming ring on a ‘massive’ scale across Oxford. They had sexually abused five girls who were aged as young as 13 between 1998 and 2005.

The court heard at the sentencing of Khan and Ahmed, that both had imprisoned one of the girls, before humiliating her in a ‘terrifying and protracted’ attack.

Judge Peter Ross said: “There was sexual humiliation, what would now be described as sexual assault.

“Her whole body was stripped and she had various substances thrown at her including into her face and rubbed into her skin.

“All the time the two of you were mocking and humiliating her. She tried to escape, she thought she was going to die.”

He added there had been ‘significant threats of violence’ following the ordeal including a threat that would ‘put into the cellar at this address where no-one would find her’.

In other instances of sexual abuse, the court heard, Khan tried to force another victim, aged 13 or 14 at the time, into performing a sex act.

Khan began blackmailing an inmate at HMP Littlehey, near Huntingdon, in 2018 after the latter’s son had been assaulted near his workplace.

The victim, in his 40s, was then approached by Khan and asked about his son’s welfare.

In August 2018, Khan told the victim if he didn’t give him £2,000 his son would be attacked again. The man was given the bank details of Budar Mehmood – Khan’s mother.

The victim organised the bank transfer but then, in October 2018, Khan demanded a further £5,000 and suggested the man’s wife would be attacked if he did not comply. When the man asked for more time Khan intimidated the man to make him comply.

Khan, who is serving an eight-year sentence for indecent assault and false imprisonment, denied two charges of blackmail. Mehmood, 62, of Netherfield Road, Bolton, also denied acquiring criminal property.

They were found guilty following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court in November.

Now at Peterborough Crown Court Khan has been ordered to serve an additional two years and 10 months in prison. Mehmood was handed an 18-month community order and told to complete 30 days rehabilitation activity requirement.

Det Con John Whitworth said: “Khan used intimidation as he attempted to exploit the victim for his own financial gain. The victim in this case was terrified about the consequences of not complying. He only felt able to come forward when he confided in another prisoner who persuaded him to speak out about what had happened.”
