A TEENAGER armed with a knife has been spared jail after he admitted assaulting his mother.
Daniel Urmston, aged 19, of Catherine’s Close, Horwich, was sentenced to four months’ detention, suspended for 12 months by Wigan magistrates. The court heard that he committed the offence on January 9.
Magistrates told him: “This was an appalling assault on your own mother when armed with a knife.
“The only reason you are not going straight to prison is your guilty plea, lack of previous convictions and the plea of clemency from your family.”
Urmston was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work, have treatment for alcohol addiction for six months and participate in rehabilitation activities for 20 days. He must also pay a total of £213 in costs and charges.
