  • Former Bolton mayoress Gay Wharton died after being hit by an Audi S3 car on Chorley New Road, Bolton on November 13 last year.
  • In December Assad Hussain, aged 23, of Maplewood Gardens, Bolton, pleaded guilty to causing 58-year-old Mrs Wharton’s death by dangerous driving.
  • Wasim Iqbal, aged 23, of Chorley New Road, Bolton, denied the same offence and only pleaded guilty on Wednesday last week, immediately before a jury was due to be sworn in for his trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
  • Judge John Potter is sentencing Hussain and Iqbal.
