A Bolton MP is looking to tackle the causes of recent flooding that devastated Horwich.

Chris Green, MP for Bolton West and Atherton, recently asked residents to report if they had blocked drains on their street.

He now believes this may have "significantly contributed" to the flooding seen in Horwich last month, and has asked for these to be cleared.

He said: "Following the recent thunderstorm and flooding in Horwich, I asked residents to to let me know if they had any blocked drains on their street.

"From the large number of residents that have been in touch, blocked drains may have significantly contributed to the flooding and I have asked that they be urgently cleared.

"I have also been in touch with Cllr David Greenhalgh, the Leader of Bolton Council and the Environment Agency to discuss the wider cause of flooding and hope to have further updates soon."
