Nearly 90 per cent of over-50s in Bolton have received both jabs of the coronavirus vaccine.

A total of 87.1% - or 90,070 - now have the full vaccine protection against the virus.

The figures are based on provisional data from NHS England for vaccinations up to June 6 and use population figures from the Office for National Statistics, which are the best publicly available official estimates.

People are typically advised to wait 12 weeks before receiving their second vaccine, but this was brought forward to eight weeks in many areas.

Bolton has seen a huge vaccination effort in recent weeks following a surge in cases.

More than 4,500 people were vaccinated at Eden Boys' school last week alone.
