SIENNA Miller, Kylie Minogue, Mischa Barton and Keira Knightley are just some of the famous women that Manchester designer Matthew Williamson has dressed over the last decade.

And his distinctive use of pattern, print and colour has made him a fashion icon.

Now, an acclaimed exhibition at Urbis, in Cathedral Gardens, Manchester, will celebrate the designer's 10th anniversary.

Matthew Williamson was born in Chorlton, Manchester in 1971 and lived there until he accepted a place at Central St Martins in London, graduating in 1994 with a BA 2:1 in Fashion Design and Printed Textiles.

His first show, Electric Angels comprised just 11 outfits but it was enough to make front pages on newspapers all over the world.

Since then he has opened a store in Mayfair, been nominated three times for British Designer of the Year and is now Creative Director at the LVMH owned Italian fashion house Emilio Pucci.

Previously displayed at the Design Museum, the exhibition, which runs from March 27 to September 21, has been expanded for its northern debut.

Vaughan Allen, chief executive of Urbis, said:"Urbis has been hosting a succession of highly popular fashion events, that have firmly placed Manchester on the international fashion map, and proved the people of the city to be as passionate for fashion as any fashionista in Paris or Milan.

"It is fantastic that an internationally acclaimed designer such as Matthew is bringing the best of his work to Urbis, tailored with a Manchester twist, just for visitors to this show."

The exhibition, which is sponsored by Coutts and Co, will run from March 27 to September 21.

Admission to the show is free, and a programme of events supporting the exhibition will be announced nearer the time.
