‘I WAS only following the directions!’
This articulated lorry got itself into a jam back in 1988 when the driver ended up in the pedestrianised area off Deansgate.
But the time he realised he was in the wrong place it was too late and he could only stand and wait until the police and council workmen could be called to ‘free’ him.
The lorry - which was due to make a deliver to Woolworth’s - was stuck in Bolton town centre for more than 90 minutes before workmen removed three bollards which had effectively trapped the vehicle.
Once removed, the driver was able to head off along Hotel Street and to the open road.
