A sinkhole has appeared on a Farnworth road during resurfacing works.
The sinkhole is on Barncroft Road, near Farnworth town centre, and is near the junction with King Street.
The road has been closed since last Friday for resurfacing works by Bolton Council's highways team with the sinkhole appearing in the last day.
The resurfacing work was due to be completed by Friday, with the sinkhole likely to cause a delay to this.
A council spokesman said: “During planned maintenance work on Barncroft Road, Farnworth a void below the existing road surface has been discovered.
"We are now investigating the cause to then repair this before completing the routine re-surfacing work.”
