A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving a car during rush-hour last night.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Marsh Lane and Highfield Road yesterday evening at 5pm.

Paramedics attended the scene and the man, said to be in his fifties, was taken immediately to hospital with 'serious injuries'.

Highfield Road was closed both ways for around an hour due to the accident, which occurred somewhere between St James Primary School and Meadow Walk.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We have taken a man in his 50s to hospital with serious injuries. He was a cyclist involved in an road traffic collision with a car.

"We received the 999 call at 5pm on June 14."

Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more information.
