One more person has died from coronavirus at the Royal Bolton Hospital, the NHS have said.

The patient died at the hospital yesterday and is the first death at Bolton Hospital since June 7.

This means a total of 658 people have died of Covid-19 at the hospital since the start of the pandemic with the first death occurring on March 20 last year.

It comes as coronavirus cases continue to fall in the borough with the number of patients at the hospital being treated for Covid-19 remaining relatively stable.

In the seven days to June 10, Bolton recorded 888 new positive cases of Covid-19, equalling an infection rate of 308.8 new cases per 100,000 residents.

This is a decrease from the previous seven days, to June 3, where Bolton recorded a rate of 321 per 100,000.

As of June 8, the latest figures available, 39 people were in Bolton hospital being treated for Covid-19, 10 fewer than May 27 (49), and far fewer than previous spikes in November last year and January this year where up to 150 patients were being treated.
