THE Armed Forces Flag is flying above Bolton Town Hall as the borough honours its servicemen and woman, both past and present.

The flag was raised on Monday during a special civic ceremony in Victoria Square.

The socially distanced ceremony, led by the Vicar of Bolton, Rev'd Canon Dr Chris Bracegirdle, took place on Victoria Square to mark the start of Armed Services Week.

It was attended by The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Linda Thomas, GM High Sheriff Mrs Diane Hawkins DL, Leader of the Council, Cllr David Greenhalgh, Lt Cdr Clive Hayward Royal Navy, personnel from Bolton's 216 Battery 103 Regiment Royal Artillery and veterans also joined the service.

The two minute silence was marked by Lancashire Artillery Band Bugler Lance Bombardier Catherine Line following which the Armed Forces Day Flag was raised on the Town Hall.

Due to current covid restrictions, only 30 people were permitted to attend the service, all socially distanced. Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday and a short service will take place on Victoria Square followed by a small wreath laying ceremony.
