A BOLTON man has been jailed for two years after heroin and crack cocaine wraps were found in his home.

Zahid Ilyas, 44, of Southfield Street, Bolton, was found with the drugs haul following a police raid on his home in December 2018, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Police found 15 wraps of brown powder and eight wraps of white rocks, later revealed to be heroin and crack cocaine. Their street value was estimated at £230.

Some the drugs were stored in a chewing gum container. A small quantity of cannabis along with a number of snap bags and mini weighing scales were also found during the raid.

Prosecuting, Megan Tollitt said two phones were also found, although there was no evidence of dealing on them.

Ilyas had pleaded not guilty to possession and supply charges at a trial, although he was found guilty by a jury.

Defending, Hunter Gray said Ilyas had ADHD, which he had not been treated for, and other mental health problems.

He said: “He is someone who has reflected upon the events which led to his arrest. He is somewhat traumatised by the manner in which he was arrested. He is now living with parents and has had no alcohol since his arrest.”

Recorder Robert Lazarus said it was “frankly preposterous” that Ilyas had denied possession of the drugs at trial - after Ilyas claimed they were left behind following a party.

Passing sentence. he added that heroin “is an extremely dangerous drug that blights the lives of those who use it.”

Ilyas must also pay a statutory surcharge.
