A highly anticipated beer festival run by a local brewery has had to be postponed due to coronavirus restrictions being extended by the government.

‘Monkey in the Woods’ by Northern Monkey, which runs a bar in Nelson Square, Bolton, was to take place on July 3 as part of Bolton’s Beer and Cider week.

However, with the government's recent announcement that coronavirus restrictions will not be eased until July 19, instead of June 21 as originally planned, the brewery have made the decision to postpone the event.

The festival is still going to be hosted at Barrow Bridge car park, off Barrow Bridge Road, with a range of locally brewed beers, ciders and Bolton gin will be sold at the event, with live music and food also on offer.

Northern Monkey said: "After much consideration, and consultation with organisers, food vendors, performers etc, we have decided to reschedule the event to Saturday September 4.

"All ticket holders have been emailed with the new date.

"This is the date that was most commonly available to people who are essential to the festival going ahead.

"It also at the end of the school holidays, which we hope means many of the original ticket holders will not be away for whatever reason and can still attend.

"Furthermore, we didn’t want a festival under any restrictions. We want to have fun!

"If you are now unable to attend this date, please email info@northernmonkeybrewco.com and request a refund.

"We will be more than happy to do this for you.

"After a week or two, we will put any refunded tickets back up for sale.

"All existing tickets will still be valid to use to enter the festival.

"Don't worry about needing to download or print a new ticket.

"We hope you are all still looking forward to the festival and we cannot wait to put on a show to remember!"

Thirty per cent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to The Woodlands Trust, Smithills Estate, to help them to continue preserving and maintaining the estate for years to come.
