A fundraiser has been set up to support the family of an eight-year-old boy who was seriously injured in an alleged hit and run.
Liam Daley, 8, was riding his toy scooter when he was hit by a car on Newchurch Road in Bacup on Thursday (June 24).
He was airlifted to Manchester Children's Hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital.
Rossendale United Football Club, where Liam plays in their under eight blue team, has launched a fundraiser to support the family which has already raised over £1,000.
Club secretary, Brian Johnston said that the team were shocked by the news of the incident but thought it important to do something for the family.
He said: "It's a fantastic effort. It was really important, he is one of our own and we are a big family at Rossendale United.
"Other clubs have been donating which is fantastic.
"It shocked us all at the club, he has been there since he was in the under 5s and he has been with the same coaches.
"He is a lovely little kid, really bright footballing ahead of him, he is a really good player."
The money will be donated to the family to help them pay for expenses incurred while they are staying Liam at hospital in Manchester.
