A CLEANING firm in Bolton which started out making Cunard liners shine is set to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

The former Bolton Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Service, now known as Heightvale, forged a trading relationship with the Cunard Line.

This saw staff from the firm, which today trades out of Spa Road, undertaking deep cleans of the Queen Mary, the Luisitania and latterly the QE2 in between voyages.

A company spokesman said: “As the business offered facilities and knowledge to uplift saturated carpets alongside drying, cleaning and re-fitting these, the public and insurance sectors began to take notice of the high level of skill and workmanship presented by the company.

“In the 1950s and 1960s the business grew and evolved further, specialising in re-upholstery and French polishing before branching out again into property restoration focusing upon flood damage and full house fires.

“The company’s reputation soared and Bolton Carpets and Upholstery was rebranded to Heightvale Limited.”

Fast forwarding to 2021, the company today says it has “vastly modernised whilst honouring it’s roots”.

But bosses have been quick to acknowledge the challenges and hurdles thrown into their path by the pandemic as they make prepares for their three-quarter century.

The spokesman added: “With an emphasis on employing local people in all aspects of the business, including partnering with colleges and apprentice programmes, Bolton remains at the heart of Heightvale and continues to run through the veins of the business.

“This year marks 75 years of success. With a recent shift in the board of directors, Bolton’s very own Heightvale Ltd. plans to evolve further and continue in it’s expansion.”
