A NEWBORN foal has dozens of fans and his own Facebook following after being orphaned at just 10 days old.

Gorgeous George arrived at Peel Hall Farm in Astley on June 13 but after just three hours his mum had to be put to sleep as she was suffering from tetanus.

New owner Terri Oldham tried to find a foster mare to feed George but after two failed attempts with animals in Oxford and Preston, the 34-year-old has been hand-rearing the youngster herself.

Terri has been bottle feeding George every two hours and sleeps in her car at the farm so that she doesn’t miss any of the feeding times during the night.

Now, George is nearly a month old and is thriving.

Terri, who also owns eight other horses, said: “Gorgeous George wouldn’t feed from a bottle and was quickly losing weight when the mare died and we tried to find a foster mare to help.

“Unfortunately, these didn’t work but we managed to feed him with a bottle ourselves.

“He’s doing brilliantly and is over the worst now.

“He has got quite a following on Facebook!”

Terri’s friends have set up a fundraising page to help with vet bills and hand-rearing costs for George, and they have already collected £400.
