A TOWN centre bar which was under the cloud of a licensing review for a number of months has had its case dropped.

The Bar, in Nelson Square, was placed under a licensing review by Bolton Council for allegedly breaching coronavirus restrictions in October last year — when Greater Manchester was put in the government’s coronavirus alert level of ‘very high’.

The venue was visited by police and council enforcement officers on a few occasions towards the end of October where they said they “witnessed very limited food on the tables” being served with drinks, when a substantial meal was required.

It had been set to have its licence reviewed by Bolton Council at a committee hearing on two occasions, however, these were both adjourned.

The review has now been dropped by the council, with The Bar now free to trade again, under current government guidelines.

The Bar posted on its Facebook page, saying: “As most of you are aware, The Bar was taken to review by the council in late April 2021.

“We would like to announce that the council have now dropped the review against The Bar. We have always remained adamant that we didn’t break any Covid regulations back in October 2020 and we continue to adhere to the current regulations for the safety of our staff and our customers.

“We are finally happy that all of this is behind us so we can move forward with the party adhering to any Covid regulations that are in place.”

The Bolton News reported recently how The Bar had begun trading in recent weeks despite the ongoing review, which the council confirmed they were allowed to do.

This followed months of speculation surrounding the licensing review and the future of The Bar.

Bolton Council was unavailable for comment on why the licensing review was dropped as The Bolton News went to press.
