LOFTY the Lion kicked off a primary school's health and fitness week.

The Gates Primary in Westhoughton held their annual event to teach and encourage youngsters to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

Chadd Pearson from Lancashire Cricket Club led a session and children enjoyed a tennis lesson by Tom Luke from Lostock Tennis Club.

Year Five and Six pupils completed their Bikeability with a little help from Special Olympian star Kiera Byland.

Sonaash Bollywood dancers also came into school along with ave Morris from ‘Become a Champion’ boxing.

Children also enjoyed a round of golf thanks to Harwood Golf Club as well as taking part in yoga and mindfulness sessions.

Highlights including he fitness drumming session lead by Ian Harrison from Drumz Aloud. Many children overcame their fears whilst tackling The Mountain Monkeys climbing wall. The school said: "It was a hugely successful week providing children with many opportunities to try things for the first time." All children completed a First Aid course.
