PEOPLE are being urged to have their say about the future of Leigh Spinners Mill.

Restoration work started on the building seven years ago with the charity Leigh Building Preservation Trust setting up home in one of the mills.

The vision was to create a community hub for people, businesses and organisations and having partially renovated the second mill and safeguarded the building’s heritage, plans are now underway to decide the future of the top two floors in mill two as well as all five floors in the first mill.

Leigh Journal:

Local residents and neighbours living in Leigh are being asked to take part in a public consultation and say what they would like to see in the mill and how it can be developed for the use of the whole community.

The empty space within the mills is huge and is the equivalent of the floor area of every supermarket in Leigh combined, so the possibilities for the building are endless.

Jo Platt, general manager, said: “Work started on the repair and restoration of the double mill in 2014 and saving the engine house and other buildings from falling into disrepair.

“We want to create a sustainable model whereby the profits from the mill are put straight back in, benefiting people within the community as well as local businesses.

"There is so much space and there are so many opportunities."

Spinners Mill is already home to exercise facilities. cafe, a music school and creative hub.

Jo added: “We want people in Leigh to know that we’re here and find out what they would like to see more of and what else they would like to see.

“We need you to have your say and tell us what you, your family or your business would like from Leigh Spinners Mill, whether it’s for work, leisure or a bit of both.”
