A MAN has died after a car crashed into a building in Salford in the early hours of today.

Police officers on patrol witnessed a car crashing into a building on Blackfriars Road before catching fire at around 3.30am.

Two men were rescued from the car by officers, who then tried to put out the blaze.

Paramedics and firefighters then arrived and the casualties were taken to hospital.

One of the men, the passenger aged 23, has died.

The driver, also aged 23, remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Police remain at the scene of the crash an investigation by Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is under way.

PC Andrew Nicholson said: "This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

"Our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

"I would also like to praise the bravery of the officers who rescued the men from vehicle and the work of the emergency services at the scene.
