A MAN was rescued after falling into a brook in Bolton yesterday.

Emergency services were sent to Walker Fold at around 3.45pm after a man fell into Dean Brook, around half a mile from the Cigarette tunnel.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by, former fireman Paul Norris, before police, paramedics and mountain rescue team members were sent to the scene.

Due to the remote location and difficult terrain, the mountain rescue team had to walk to the area in a steep river ravine carrying a stretcher, guided by Mr Norris, before the man was carried to safety.

He suffered a suspected broken ankle.
