In this dramatic scene photographed in February 1940, Bank Top Farm, Kearsley was ablaze and residents came out in the snow to witness the drama.
The house was destroyed to provide practical experience for the local auxiliary fire service demolition squads in preparation for any possible German bombing raids over Bolton
