A driver that escaped police patrols in Southport was seized in Bolton in the early hours of this morning, police say.

The blue Vauxhall Astra failed to stop for police in Southport after a pursuit and claimed to have no knowledge of the incident when eventually stopped in Bolton.

Police then found that the driver had no licence or insurance for the vehicle, despite saying they were the new owner of the car, leading to their arrest and the car being seized, according to officers.

A GMP Traffic spokesman, said: "The Astra had previously made off from patrols in Southport. On being stopped by officers in Bolton the driver said he was the new owner.

"We couldn't prove his knowledge of the pursuit but we could prove he had no licence or insurance. Car seized and driver arrested."
