TAKEN in 1948, this photo shows one of Bolton’s many lost pubs - the Gypsy’s Tent on the corner of Spa Road.

The pub, dating to the 1860s had a colourful history and in the Victorian era was known for welcoming a band of travelling surgeons who were known to perform dental procedures on pub goers, while a band played, possibly to drown out the cries of their ‘patients’.

Run by various breweries including William Tong and Walkers of Warrington it was in the hands of Tetley Walker when it was sold in 1981.

It later became known as Winston’s and a function room was added but it closed in 2007 and was converted into flats.
