THOUSANDS of people packed into Victoria Square in November 1988 when the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh paid an official visit to to Bolton.
The royal couple took part in celebrations marking Bolton’s incorporation as a borough by Queen Victoria in 1838.
During the royal visit the Queen officially opened the £40 million Market Place centre and the £5.5 million Water Place. Primary school children aged from nine to 11 were given the morning and more han 6,000 of them lined Blackhorse Street to greet the royal party.
