A CHARITY has made a cool donation to hospitals by offering them fans - and could be donating up to 100.

Homeless Aid UK volunteers gave the fans to B3 ward at the Royal Bolton Hospital, which deals with complex care needs and includes Covid patients.

Charity boss Billa Ahmed was speaking to one of the nurses who works with the charity about the needs of wards.

She told Billa she would enquire with the appropriate people - and later told him some wards desperately needed fans.

He said: "I had saw something online about it and I asked one of the nurses who works with us if there was a shortage in the hospital.

"She rang around a few places and came back to me and said that they needed some. I put a shout-out on Facebook and said that we needed some, so we collected some that way while we also picked some up."

Billa and another volunteer, Mav, donated eight fans to the ward, with Billa describing them as 'gold dust'.

He added: "They were very grateful but we didn't do it for ourselves or to get thanks, we just thought; what if our parents were in there?

"The wards can get really hot and the medication can make people really warm too and in this weather, you really need to cool down.

"It's awful to be stuck in a hospital bed with weather like this."

Homeless Aid UK is now waiting on hospital bosses to get back to them to see what their specific needs are - and say they are ready to source up to another 100 for the hospital's wards.

He said: "We are waiting to see what the hospital says but we will try and get 50-100 more for the hospital if they need us to.

"We are also looking to get them for struggling families too. People don't have the money to buy luxuries like fans but in this weather, they are needed."
