A ROAD rage driver punched another motorist, breaking his jaw, in a confrontation in a one-way street.

Mohsin Wazir was driving to join his family for dinner at the Trafford Centre and turned from Morley Street into Gibraltar Street, Bolton.

Bolton Crown Court heard how Mr Wazir was driving the correct way along the one-way street on February 24, 2019, when his Toyota Prius met a black SUV heading towards him, driven by 42-year-old Mohammed Khan.

Paul Hodgkinson, prosecuting, told a jury that words were exchanged and Mr Wazir told Khan to be careful because children were playing on the street.

"It seems that this defendant took took umbrage at that was upset about being challenged about the manner of his driving, pulled up and got out of his car," said Mr Hodgkinson.

There was shouting, with Khan flying into a rage and grabbing at Mr Wazir's coat, asking him to go road the corner for a fight and calling him a "pussy".

Mr Wazir, reluctant to go down the alleyway, told his attacker, "If you're going to do something you had better do it here".

Despite effort's by Khan's passenger to calm him down, Khan punched Mr Wazir on the jaw, and he fell backwards onto the ground.

Khan got back into his car and drove off.

"The victim was shaken up but he had his wits about him and was able to take photographs of the car which Mr Khan was driving," said Mr Hodgkinson.

And when Mr Wazir visited the hospital doctors discovered his jaw was broken in two places.

Police were able to trace the driver and Mr Wazir's father, Mohammed Wazir, also obtained CCTV footage of the incident from a cousin who lives nearby and further film from the nearby mosque was found.

The following month, on March 2, Khan visited Mohammed Wazir's shop.

"He explained he was willing to apologize to Wazir junior for what he had done. He admitted striking him but said he had only done it with the palm of his hand," said Mr Hodgkinson.

"He said he would do whatever was necessary to avoid getting in trouble."

But on March 29 Khan returned to the shop and confronted his victim's dad at the the back of the shop.

"What's going on? I only slapped him. I didn't even do that much," Khan is alleged to have said and became annoyed when told the prosecution was continuing.

He threatened: "If I go inside for this there's going to be trouble. All these people in Bolton, they're nothing. I'll get the Manchester boys to come and do you over."

Khan was arrested and, when interviewed by police, accepted he had hit Mr Wazir, but alleged he only did so because his victim had a knife.

He added that he could not remember having a conversation with Mr Wazir's father.

Khan, of Wigan Road, Bolton, denies causing grievous bodily harm and intimidating a witness.

The trial continues.
