THE number of coronavirus cases in Bolton increased by 339 over the weekend, official figures show – and two more deaths were recorded at Royal Bolton Hospital.

A total of 37,717 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Bolton when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on July 26.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 84,323 over the period same period.

There were also two more coronavirus deaths recorded over the weekend in Bolton.

It means that 762 people had died in the area since the first death was reported on March 20 of last year – up from 760 on Friday.

It means there have been five deaths in the past week, which is an increase on two the previous week.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Bolton.

Traditionally, figures reported on a Monday are likely to be lower than as a result of a lag in reporting deaths over the weekend.

The figures also show that nearly two-thirds of people in Bolton have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 156,459 people had received both jabs by July 25 (Sunday) – 64 per cent of those aged 18 and over, according to NHS data.

Across England, 70 per cent of people aged 18 and above had received a second dose of the jab.
