A MAJOR route through Bolton is closed as emergency service deal with a serious incident this afternoon.
The A666 northbound carriageway is closed near the bridge at Raikes Lane - and will be for quite some time, according to North West Motorway Police.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 4pm on July 28.

A North West Motorway Police spokesperson said: "Officers are dealing with a police incident on the A666 in Bolton.
"The Northbound carriageway is closed at Raikes Lane and will be for the foreseeable. Please find an alternative route."
Local bus routes are being diverted, so service users should check with their operators before travelling.
Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said:Β "Officers were called at 3.40pm today (July 28) to the A666 in Bolton to concerns over the welfare of a female.
"It is believed a 17-year-old woman fell off a bridge and has been taken by ambulance to hospital, where she is in a critical condition with a head injury.
"There are no suspicious circumstances and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident."
