A TEENAGE girl is in critical condition with a "severe head injury" after falling from a bridge earlier today.
Emergency services were called to the A666 near Raikes Lane shortly before 4pm on July 28 to reports of concern for the welfare for a teenager.
She was rushed to hospital by paramedics - where she is now fighting for her life, according to the police force.
The northbound carriageway was closed for around an hour, according to North West Motorway Police.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 3.40pm (July 28) to the A666 in Bolton to concerns over the welfare of a female.
"It is believed a 17-year-old woman fell off a bridge and has been taken by ambulance to hospital, where she is in a critical condition with a head injury.
"There are no suspicious circumstances and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident."
A North West Ambulance Spokesperson added: "We have responded to a casualty who has fallen from a bridge. A woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition."
The road has since reopened and traffic has returned to normal.
